dare to look silly

On Tuesday I arrived at Oiselle HQ to the exciting news that Jamie Lee Curtis had been spotted on the Today show in the Oiselle Big Run tee! Of course, I dropped everything to watch the interview. And found it very inspiring. It was all about at kids book she wrote about 'Firsts'. She explained she was inspired by the realization that parents are always encouraging kids to try new thing, take risks, be brave ... and yet in their (our) own lives they aren't challenging themselves to do what they ask of their kids. I don't have kids, but the message of trying new things speaks to me. I have come to the realization (in my ripe old age of 30) that remaining curious, exploring, taking risks and even looking silly is the key to happiness and remaining young in heart and spirit. I constantly have to remind myself to push outside my comfort zone. It's always worth it when I do.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

  1. I need more silly in my life. Nice post, Sarah.

    1. I think Pants Party is the perfect start to adding the silly. I laugh everytime I read my script.

  2. I've had the Mark Twain quote in my head for a week now since I first read this post. Great mantra-style words to get me through my runs. I swear the sentiment has peeled ten seconds off each mile. Thanks!

  3. i LOVE this.
my 3 kids have taught me to be more open and adventurous and grateful for each and every experience. to look at things that maybe i started to take for granted - often even the simplest of things right in front of my nose! - and see new possibility, beauty, joy and excitement in them. they've also taught me to say "why not?" more - why can't i have dreams as a 36 year old woman? why can't i pursue my passions and explore what is in my heart and beyond? i hope i never grow old at heart - i want to live all of my days exploring and dreaming and discovering and being open to possibilities ...
that mark twain quote is so awesome and so true!!
thanks for this and for all of your posts!!! xo
