I have to admit I've been sinking deep into the winter doldrums. Spring is my least favorite season and what's worse is this. Whatever February and March is. It's enough to make me pull the covers up over my head and sleep until July. But now, just one more month, then the hope of summer gets real!
Every year I try to find ways to make it more enjoyable. Last year Owen and I went snowshoeing and this year we decided to go again. With his sister, Jane. It was nice to find beauty in the awkward stage of winter.

Oh and not to brag but I did win the mini race at the beginning of our guided walk. The ranger has everyone run across a deep snowy field to show how easy it is to walk in snowshoes. Check out that hardware. Let it be said, there were no children on our walk. But had there been, they are really easy to push out of the way.

Push Up Variations

Today after my run I did circuit training. I actually love strength training. I think it's fun. I'm looking forward to adding more to my training. Most specifically I like doing push-ups. (I know I have a problem) But I was the girl (barely) benching the bar in high school gym class, so I feel pretty buff when I power through a minute of spider man push-ups. And yes I do grunt.

Annnyway. The two push-up variations in today's workout were the 'T push-up' and 'push-up + plank row'. All push-ups work the core and legs, with a focus in shoulders and chest. But these two variations take the stability core work up a notch. Killing two birds, my friends.

T Push-Up (this dude's calves are scary. sorry. shudder)

Push-Up + Plank Row
Full Circuit (60 seconds each, no rest until all done, 60 rest, repeat circuit)
goblet squat
mt climber
single arm dumbell swing
T push up
split jump
dumbbell push up + row
dumbbell lunge and rotation
squat + shoulder press

Finished with 5 minutes of abs on the pilates roller.

LSD Saturday

The time had come. I hadn't run a long run in over a year. First because of the post Chicago injury. Then because there was simply no reason to.

I love the long run. And since I'm starting to see races on the horizon again (perhaps another half) tis the season for a reason.

I remembered part of my old 18 miler was a very nice 9. So I went after that this morning. I didn't want to jump from 6 to over 10 so I made myself promise no matter how good I felt there would be no 10+. I tacked on an extra loop to make it 9.6. No greed! Greed = injury. So that's where I ended it. My legs felt great (of course they did, they are fresh) and despite the concrete-wall-wind-gusts it was really fun to be out there again. Blowing around, hitting some trails, actually soaking in some mid winter sun!

*Photos taken with my iPhone - Discovery Park Seattle

Distance: 9.6
Course: Magnolia + Discovery = hilly + trails
Weather: Sunny + VERY windy. Weee blowing off the sidewalk!
Time: 1:16
Felt: Happy to run over 6 but also cursing my $@*# cramps!

A month ago I owned a pair of running shorts that were over 13 years old. I didn't just own them. I ran in them. I RACED in them. And I finally threw them away.

Oiselle Running has pimped my run. I won't promise I won't have these Roga shorts 13 years from now...because somethings never change.

and everything you need is here

Listening to KEXP this morning. Cloud Cult just before 7am. I remembered how much I love Cloud Cult and I think this will become a favorite (pre-race) song. (Also check out their song 'Your 8th Birthday')

What's New?

Life has been moving at a pace that even I would qualify as too fast. After Christmas I needed to find a new place to live and I picked up more group method classes at Sassy Fit. Tuesday through Friday I was up at 4:45am and home only to eat and sleep after apartment viewing. I finally found a place to live, in Magnolia, and moved in.

At Oiselle, the spring 2011 collection was arriving. We are the shipping, receiving...the everything department. So Sally, Liz, Larisa and I were carrying boxes to the 'warehouse' and packing up wholesale orders. I was launching the spring line on the web, and I'm happy to say it went well! Despite Drupal's best efforts to the contrary. ;)

In the midst of all of this, my goals for running were really slipping. Only getting about 2-3 days in a week was bumming me out.

Sunday night I hung my last picture and actually began to see the new place as home potential. I'm down to one Sassy Fit Method morning, and running club Wednesday and Sunday. And so I'm working on kicking my booty out of my warm bed to get miles in before work. This morning I got 5 in at 5:30am. Whoo hooo! It feels good to get back on track and have some of the dust settle. I never like a slow pace, life, or otherwise. But this new mid-February pace is starting to feel okay.
